The Presidency has reversed an earlier announcement on the posting of a Nigerian ambassador to Turkey, saying no appointment has been finalised and that the process remains under review.

In a corrected statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said only three ambassador-designates have so far been approved out of the 68 nominees earlier confirmed by the Senate.

According to the statement, Ambassador Ayodele Oke has been posted to France, while Col. Lateef Are (retd.) was approved as Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to the United States. Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, a former envoy to South Korea, was also confirmed as High Commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom.

The Presidency added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had been directed to formally notify the governments of the three countries in line with diplomatic protocol.

It stressed that no decision has been taken on the Turkey posting, describing reports of such appointment as a result of a naming mix-up.

“The review process is ongoing and a formal announcement will be made once a decision is reached,” the statement said.

The clarification followed an earlier announcement on Thursday night which named a former governor of Kebbi State, Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, as ambassador-designate to Türkiye, ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s scheduled state visit to the country next week.
