
The All Progressives Grand Alliance has unveiled its provisional timetable for the 2026 local government primary elections scheduled to hold across Anambra State’s 21 local government areas on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
In a statement issued on Thursday, APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, said the timetable was approved in line with the party’s constitution and the schedule of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission.
According to the timetable, the sale and submission of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms will take place at APGA’s Awka Regional Secretariat from January 27 to February 6.
Opara said the screening of chairmanship and councillorship aspirants would be conducted from February 7 to 11, across the state’s 21 local government areas and 326 wards.
He added that appeals arising from the screening process would be considered on February 13, while ward congresses to elect councillorship candidates and ad hoc delegates are scheduled for February 14.
“The chairmanship primary election will be held on February 15, while appeals arising from the primaries will be handled on February 16, all in Awka,” Opara said.
He also disclosed that the cost of chairmanship nomination forms has been fixed at ₦6 million, while councillorship forms will cost ₦600,000.
“Female aspirants and persons with disabilities will pay 50 per cent of the stipulated fees,” he said, adding that all payments are non-refundable and that the dates may be subject to adjustment.
The party urged prospective candidates to strictly adhere to the prescribed guidelines and electoral regulations.

According to the commission, the polls will be held across Anambra’s 21 local government areas on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
ANSIEC Chairman Genevieve Osakwe said the commission was committed to delivering a credible exercise.
“This commission is working tirelessly, day and night, to ensure that the objective of conducting free and fair local government elections in 2026 is achieved.
“Local government elections remain an indispensable component of the democratic process,” he said.
She said political party primaries would run from December 18, 2025, to February 16, 2026, adding that campaigns must be issue-based and conducted in public spaces.
“Campaigns will not be allowed in churches, mosques, shrines, barracks, police stations or any secret locations,” Osakwe said.
She added that candidates would be required to pay non-refundable administrative deposits for their nominations to be valid.
