Nigerian gospel singer, Bunmi Akinnanu, better known by the title of her hit song: “Omije Oju Mi,” will be buried on Thursday (Today) at the Atan Cemetery in Yaba, Lagos.

The Eagle Online exclusively gathered that she will be buried in an open grave next to that of Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Allwell Ademola, who passed away recently.

Family, friends, and well-wishers have been invited to join in celebrating a life well lived and to honor the memory of Bunmi Akinnaanu.

Recall that the family of late gospel singer had recently released a fresh schedule for her final burial rites.

This followed the deep shock and concern raised over her sudden passing.

The family had stated that they believe her death was not ordinary and deserved thorough clarification before burial arrangements were concluded.

Due to these concerns, the family made the difficult decision to cancel all earlier burial arrangements.

They instead opted to focus on prayers, spiritual cleansing, and consultations to better understand the circumstances surrounding her passing.

Family members emphasized that there was no need to rush her burial, stressing that Akinnanu deserved a befitting and honourable farewell.

This decision, however, led to disagreements between the family and some of Bunmi’s friends and colleagues, who had already formed a burial planning committee and fixed dates without fully carrying the family along in the process.

The lack of proper consultation reportedly contributed to the initial delay and tension between both parties.

The initial plans, which had multiple-day schedule and circulated by fellow gospel artiste, included a service of songs, a candlelight procession, and a tribute night on Tuesday, January 20, at the LTV 8 ground in Ikeja, Lagos.

A private interment service for the family and close allies was set for January 21

However, those plans were formally called off.

Following further discussions, a new date was agreed by the family upon for the burial of the gospel artist.

The burial arrangement goes thus:

Service of Songs: Venue: Ben Auto Event Center, Akowonjo Roundabout, beside FCMB Bank

Candlelight Night: Wednesday, 28th January 2026 | 4:00pm

Artiste Night: Wednesday, 28th January 2026 | 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Interment: Thursday, 29th January 2026 | 10:00am (Strictly for Family and Allies)
