The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State on Sunday recorded a major political boost with the formal registration of Prince Kazeem Adeyanju Olanrewaju Bakinson, the Aare Mayegun of Owu Kingdom and convener of the Ajiboshin Platform.
Bakinson, who serves in the Lagos State Government, registered at Oke-Ago Owu Ward in Abeokuta North Local Government Area, a development party stakeholders described as a strategic gain ahead of fresh political realignments in the state.
Speaking shortly after collecting his membership slip, Bakinson said his decision to join the APC was anchored on the party’s commitment to good governance, grassroots development and progressive leadership across the South-West and beyond.
“I am joining the APC because of its record of people-oriented governance and reforms. My goal is to contribute meaningfully to strengthening the party at the grassroots and to support policies that improve the lives of our people,” he said.
Political analysts noted that Bakinson’s entry into the ruling party could alter political dynamics within Abeokuta North and the wider Owu axis, given his traditional stature, professional influence in Lagos politics and leadership of the Ajiboshin Platform, a socio-political network with strong grassroots reach.
Party sources said the development formed part of ongoing efforts to consolidate the APC’s base in Ogun State ahead of future electoral contests, adding that the influx of influential figures into the party signalled growing confidence in its leadership and prospects.
His registration slip, dated February 1, 2026, listed Ogun State, Abeokuta North LGA and Oke-Ago Owu Ward as his official political base, formally anchoring his return to active grassroots politics in his ancestral community.
