The National Examinations Council has released the results of the 2025 External Senior School Certificate Examination, with 68,166 candidates securing at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics.

The Registrar of NECO, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, announced this on Monday at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
Out of the 96,979 candidates who registered for the examination across 16 subjects nationwide, 95,160 eventually sat for the papers.

The candidates comprised 51,823 males (53.43 per cent) and 45,156 females (46.56 per cent).
A breakdown of the results showed strong performance in the core subjects.

According to Wushishi, 93,425 candidates sat for English Language, with 73,167 (78.32 per cent) obtaining credit and above. In Mathematics, 93,330 candidates participated, out of which 85,256 (91.35 per cent) recorded credit and above.

Overall, 82,082 candidates, representing 86.26 per cent, obtained five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics.

However, the registrar expressed concern over a sharp rise in examination malpractice, revealing that 9,016 candidates were booked for various offences — a 31.7 per cent increase from the 6,160 cases recorded during the 2024 external SSCE.

He added that five supervisors from the Federal Capital Territory, Kano, Adamawa and Ondo states had been recommended for blacklisting for aiding and abetting malpractice, while four examination centres in Niger, Yobe and Kano states were recommended for de-recognition over whole-centre infractions.

Wushishi reaffirmed NECO’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of its examinations, warning that the council would continue to impose stiff sanctions on offenders to deter malpractice.
