‎The Yobe State Police Command has launched a manhunt for an 18-year-old woman, Khadija Jamilu, for allegedly attacking her husband during a domestic dispute in Potiskum Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect allegedly stabbed her 25-year-old husband in the genital area with a knife in the early hours of Friday.

‎In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said operatives of the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters responded to a distress call at about 3:00 pm, reporting the incident.

‎“On February 6, 2026, at about 0100 hours, the suspect, Khadija Jamilu, an 18-year-old female of Potiskum Local Government Area, allegedly attacked her husband, aged 25 years, using a knife and inflicted a deep cut injury on his genital organ,” the statement partly read.

‎Abdulkarim said the victim was rushed to the State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, for urgent medical attention and later referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, Bauchi State, where he is currently receiving treatment.

‎He added, “Efforts are in top gear to arrest the fleeing suspect, while investigation into the case is ongoing.”

‎Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, said, “Marriage should be built on mutual respect, understanding, patience, and tolerance. Marriage must never be an avenue for violence, abuse, or humiliation.”

‎He further advised, “Couples and intending spouses should seek proper counselling before and during marriage; embrace peaceful dialogue and anger management during conflicts; involve parents, guardians, religious leaders, or trusted mediators when misunderstandings escalate; and avoid resolving marital disputes through violence, as it often leads to irreversible consequences.”

‎The statement also urged community leaders, families, and relevant stakeholders to create awareness among youths on the dos and don’ts of marriage, conflict resolution, and healthy relationships.
