A Senior Secondary School 3 student, 17-year-old Hassan Ahmadu of the Government Science and Technical College, Potiskum, Yobe State, has reportedly died following a bullying incident involving fellow students.

The incident occurred on Sunday at the school in Potiskum Local Government Area of the state.

According to a family source, 17-year-old Hassan was buried the same day in his hometown, Gadaka, in Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State.

It was gathered that Hassan was attacked by some of his classmates under circumstances that are yet to be fully clarified by authorities.

Confirming the incident, the Yobe State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, told our correspondent that the police had commenced an investigation to determine the cause of the student’s death.

“Yes, we are aware of the incident, and an investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain what led to the death of the student,” Abdulkarim said.

A teacher at the school, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Hassan had been bullied for some time. “On Sunday, he asked them to stop, but they refused and attacked him. They beat him badly, and he later died. The whole school was shocked by what happened,” the teacher said.

He added, “After the attack, the school authorities handed over the students suspected to be involved to the police. The investigation is ongoing, and we hope the authorities will find out exactly what happened and hold those responsible accountable.”

When contacted, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in the state, Prof. Abba Idriss Adam, said he would get back to our correspondent.
