Kano Assembly Denies Plot To Impeach Deputy Governor

The Kano State House of Assembly has dismissed reports suggesting plans to impeach the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam-Gwarzo, describing the claims as false, baseless and capable of stirring unnecessary tension in the state.

The spokesperson to the Speaker, Kamaluddeen Shawai, told journalists in Kano on Saturday that there was no motion, discussion or initiative within the House aimed at removing the deputy governor.

“There is absolutely no move by the Assembly to impeach the Deputy Governor. These reports are misleading and should be disregarded by the public,” Shawai said.

He stressed that Abdulsalam-Gwarzo continued to enjoy the full support of the legislature, adding that the Assembly remained committed to its constitutional responsibilities rather than engaging in speculative political manoeuvres.

Shawai also urged journalists and members of the public to verify information before dissemination, warning that unverified reports could undermine political stability and public confidence in governance.

“Our focus remains on lawmaking, oversight and delivering good governance to the people of Kano, not spreading rumours,” he added.

The denial comes amid heightened political speculation in the state, but the Assembly insisted there was no basis for claims of a rift between the legislature and the executive.
