Screen diva, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, has got a new film titled Mother’s Love. The Nollywood actress has been on a tour of media houses lately, talking about her upcoming project.

“It’s my first movie ever – Mother’s Love,” she said during a recent interview. “It’s my debut movie. I have never shot a movie before. 30 years in the industry and this is my first movie. And it’s a gift to families.”

What is it about the film that makes it a gift? The popular actress explained. “It’s a gift to me; and I believe it’s a gift to a lot of families as well. This movie chose me because I wasn’t even ready at the time to shoot a film. I came here on vacation and Ruth Kadiri, a very wonderful actor convinced me to do a YouTube project which I fought and kicked but she just insisted and said you can try it.

“I tried it and I did it. After I did that one, I just decided to try a whole feature film and that’s how I decided to shoot this movie.” Co-written by Omotola and Tyna Obahiagbon, Mother’s Love which marks her directorial debut first premiered to a great acclaim at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. She then reels out other festival appearances, including the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles.

The film is set for a nationwide cinema release in Nigeria, March 6, 2026, to be heralded by an exclusive premiere in Lagos. With a familiar cast including Omotola herself alongside Ifeanyi Kalu, Noray Nehita, Lilian Afegbai, Nosa Rex, and Olumide Oworu, Mother’s Love exposes the complexities of mother-daughter relationships, unresolved grief, and the struggle for individuality.

“So my journey is not all about the Box-office. As you can see I have gone to festivals,” she enthused. “The Box-office is just one of the means to share this project to the world. The journey is going to continue, probably till the end of the year because it’s also my 30yrs celebration. So I’m going to tour around the world, meet and talk with my fans. And then watch the movie with them.”
