Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Saturday debunked rumours of an alleged plan to impeach his deputy, Olayide Adelami, describing the claims as baseless and politically motivated.
The governor declared that Adelami had committed no offence warranting removal from office, insisting that his loyalty to the administration remained “unquestionable.”
Aiyedatiwa spoke during the commissioning of the newly constructed Ayegunle–Iwaro Oka Road in Akoko as part of activities marking his first anniversary in office.
The rebuttal followed a prophecy by an Ekiti-based cleric, Olumuyiwa Akogun, who reportedly claimed to have foreseen a possible impeachment of the deputy governor.
The cleric had warned that such a development could trigger political unrest in the state.
Reacting, Aiyedatiwa dismissed the prediction, stressing that there was no rift within the state’s leadership.
“There is no crisis between me and my deputy. He has been loyal and committed to the success of this administration. There is no basis for any impeachment,” the governor said.
He urged residents to disregard what he described as unfounded speculations capable of distracting his government from delivering dividends of democracy.
Highlighting his administration’s achievements, Aiyedatiwa said the commissioning of key road projects symbolised tangible progress recorded within one year.
According to him, the approximately six-kilometre Ayegunle–Iwaro Oka Road was constructed with durable materials to withstand heavy vehicular movement, including trucks transporting agricultural produce.
He described the corridor as a strategic transport link in the Akoko axis, critical to boosting trade and facilitating the movement of farm produce within and outside the state.
In Owo, the governor also inaugurated Opomulero Road, Iselu Road and Isuada Road in what he termed a “triple commissioning ceremony.”
Aiyedatiwa explained that the projects, spanning about 3.5 kilometres along the axis — including Falodun Road and Kajola Road were aimed at enhancing connectivity, stimulating commerce and reducing travel time for residents.
He noted that years of infrastructural neglect had imposed hardship on communities, adding that the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts were part of a broader blueprint to restore dignity and drive economic growth across the state.
“As we mark one year in office, we remain focused on infrastructure renewal, economic expansion and improved welfare for our people,” the governor said.
The governor expressed gratitude to residents for their support, assuring them that more people-oriented projects would be delivered in the coming months.
