The Supervising Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Kuje Area Council election, Abubakar Dambo, on Sunday attributed the delay in announcing the chairmanship result to challenges encountered in two wards.

Dambo, in an interview with The Nation, said the affected wards, Central and Kabi, were yet to conclude collation, noting that results from eight of the ten wards had already been declared.

At the Kuje office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, he explained that the delay stemmed from a logistical error involving collation officers.

“We are waiting for the remaining two wards out of ten. The delay is because the collation officers went to the wrong place and had to return to the INEC office before heading back early this morning to complete the collation process.

“I am sure that by now they should be on their way back from Kabi ward,” Dambo said.

Kuje remains the only outstanding area council, as the results from the other five councils have already been announced.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened in and around the INEC office in Kuje to prevent any breakdown of law and order. Party agents, journalists, and security personnel were observed at the collation centre awaiting the formal declaration of the winner by the Returning Officer, Prof. Nkiruka Odoh.

PUNCH Online had earlier reported that Joshua Ishaku of the All Progressives Congress won the Bwari Area Council chairmanship election after polling 18,466 votes.

“I am the returning officer for the 2026 FCT Area Council, Bwari chairmanship election held on Feb. 21, 2026. That Joshua Ishaku, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” the Returning Officer, Mohammed Nurudeen, announced.

INEC also declared Christopher Maikalangu of the APC as the elected chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council after securing 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes cast.

In Gwagwalada Area Council, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Mohammed Kasim, emerged victorious with 22,165 votes, defeating Yahaya Shehu of the APC, who polled 17,788 votes.

Similarly, Umar Abdullahi Abubakar of the APC won the Abaji Area Council election with 15,536 votes, while the PDP polled 4,547 votes.

In the Kwali Area Council, the APC candidate, Nuhu Daniel, was declared the winner after scoring 17,032 votes, defeating the PDP candidate, Haruna Pai, who secured 8,575 votes.
