TCN boosts power with 300MVA Egbin substation upgrade

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has successfully commissioned a new 300MVA power transformer at its 330/132/33kV Egbin Transmission Substation in Lagos State on February 22, 2025.

The addition increases the substation’s total capacity from 300MVA to 450MVA, significantly improving the availability of bulk electricity for Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company.

The Egbin Transmission Substation, located in Lagos State, is one of the key points in the transmission network that serves EKEDC, which covers parts of Lagos and its surrounding areas. The substation plays a vital role in ensuring that power is transmitted to the region, which is home to a large population and a growing number of businesses.

In a statement on the company’s X handle on Monday, the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, , said, “This upgrade will directly benefit customers in Ikorodu, Shagamu, Ijede, and surrounding areas. It will enhance the reliability of power supply, support economic growth, and contribute to a more stable grid.”

Speaking on the project’s completion, the General Manager of Transmission, Lagos Region, Adeshina Adeonipekun, said, “The project was completed in-house by TCN engineers in just six weeks. This achievement reflects our commitment to strengthening the national grid and ensuring reliable power delivery for all Nigerians.”

The new transformer will help ensure a more stable and reliable power supply to the region, enhancing network flexibility and supporting economic growth.
