Police Arrest Four Suspects Over Osun Bandit Scare

The Osun State Police Command has arrested four persons over alleged conspiracy and conduct likely to cause breach of peace following a panic triggered by an inscription in Ila-Orangun Area of the state.

The suspects were identified as 16-year-old Idris Abubakar, Abubakar Audu, 19-year-old Ahmed Abubakar, and 16-year-old Mohammed Omotayo.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, the command said the arrests were part of proactive measures to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

“As we know that prevention is better and lesser than cure, the Osun State Police Command in its proactive/preventive measure has arrested the above named suspects involved in a case of Conspiracy and conduct likely to cause breach of peace,” the statement partly read.

According to Ojelabi, the incident occurred on February 18, 2026, when an inscription reading “BANDIT TODAY TODAY” was written on a wall in the Ajegunle area of Ila-Orangun, causing panic among residents.

“Brief facts of the case is that, on 18/02/2026, an inscription ‘BANDIT TODAY TODAY’ was written on the wall of the complainant around Ajegunle area of Ila-Orangun which made members of the public in the area and its environs to be in panic; while some of them deserted the community as they envisaged banditry attack,” the statement added.

The spokesperson said operatives of the State Intelligence Department swung into action immediately the report was received and arrested four suspects through intelligence analysis.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the 1st suspect was the person who made the write-up and he admitted being the person that committed the act with the claim that he did it out of ignorance,” Ojelabi stated.

The command advised the members of the public to shun any act capable of causing panic/apprehension in Osun State and urges the residence to go about their lawful businesses.
