Osun Assembly Speaker, 24 PDP Lawmakers Dump Party for AccordThe Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, alongside 24 lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially defected to the Accord Party.
The announcement was made on Friday in Osogbo by the Speaker’s spokesperson, Olamide Tiamiyu, following a parliamentary meeting where the decision was finalised.
The Osun Assembly has 26 members in total, 25 from the PDP and one from the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Mr. Tiamiyu, the defecting lawmakers resigned from the PDP weeks ago after extensive consultations with supporters, political allies, and key stakeholders.
“They resolved to align with Accord,” he said, adding that the lawmakers were convinced the party offers a more stable, inclusive, and people-centred platform to serve the state effectively.
The lawmakers stated that the move was aimed at advancing the collective interests of Osun residents and sustaining development across the state.
They emphasized that Accord reflects their core values and vision for responsive governance.
The statement reaffirmed their continued support for Governor Ademola Adeleke, who himself defected from the PDP to the Accord Party on December 9, 2025, and their commitment to quality representation, transparency, and accountable leadership.
Following the announcement, the lawmakers proceeded to the Banquet Hall of the Government House to meet with the governor and top Accord Party leaders, where the Speaker formally declared the defections.
