A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Africa Global Development for Positive Change Initiative (ADIafrica), in partnership with Stephen and Judith Igwe International Education Foundation has conducted a free medical eye outreach for over 300 residents in Rivers State.

Flagging off the free medical eye outreach in Port Harcourt Saturday, President of ADIafrica International, Prince Dan Mbachi, disclosed that it is part of his organisation’s responsibility in assisting its host communities in the state.

Mbachi explained that the initiative reflects ADIafrica’s broader mission to advance sustainable development through practical, people-centred solutions, adding that health security is foundational to productivity and drives prosperity.

According to him, “At ADIafrica International, we recognise that vision is not merely a medical issue; it is an economic, educational, and social issue. A child who cannot see clearly struggles to learn. A trade with impaired vision struggles to work, and a parent with untreated eye conditions struggles to provide, when sight is compromised.

“That is why this free eye screening exercise, providing eye tests, medications, visual field assessments, eyeglasses, contact lenses, and accessories is not charity, but impact. It is intervention. It is transformation.”

Mbachi commended the medical team, partners, volunteers and supporters, saying that their professionalism and dedication demonstrate what collaborative development looks like in action.

Meanwhile, Mbachi has called for a visa processing centre in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Speaking with journalists, he said the processing of visa in the state would generate revenue for the state government because of its economic viability to the country.

The ADIafrica President said: “I am calling on the Rivers State government, Rivers State is the capital of South-south. We are calling on them to find a way in which we can dialogue to have visa processing centre in Rivers State.

“Visa processing centre will generate more revenue for the state. We have it only in Abuja and Lagos. So, we should have one also in Port Harcourt.”

He said ADIafrica is willing to partner with the state government to facilitate the siting of the centre in Rivers.

“If (Rivers) government wants to do this, it can partner with ADIafrica; we know how to go about it. So, I am calling on the government of Rivers State to see how we can work with them to achieve it. It is  achievable.”

Speaking further, he stated that African routes are the most expensive compared to other continents, adding that ADIafrica has been campaigning that the African Union (AU) should address the exorbitant price of air tickets.

“African Union should step in and see how they can dialogue it out, because African route is one of the most expensive routes in the world. So, African routes are very very important. I am also calling on the United Nations to establish vocational university in Africa,” he said.
