March 01, (THEWILL) — In a dramatic escalation that has sent shockwaves across the Middle East and beyond, Ali Khamenei, the 86-year-old Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has reportedly been killed in a coordinated military operation carried out by the United States and Israel.
US and Israeli media outlets reported that Khamenei’s body had been recovered following heavy bombardment of strategic sites in Tehran. However, Iranian news agencies, including Tasnim News Agency and Mehr News Agency, dismissed the claims, insisting that the Supreme Leader remained “steadfast and firm in commanding the field.”
Israeli authorities, including Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, claimed there were “strong indications” that Khamenei had been killed following the destruction of his compound in Tehran. Iranian government officials, however, rejected the assertion, maintaining that the Supreme Leader remained in control and dismissing the reports as psychological warfare.
In a statement on Saturday, US President, Donald Trump, confirmed Khamenei’s death, describing it as “justice” for victims of alleged Iranian-backed actions worldwide. He characterised the development as the “greatest chance” for the Iranian people to reclaim their country after decades under Khamenei’s rule.
The joint offensive, reportedly involving precision airstrikes on key Iranian military and government installations, marks one of the most significant confrontations between Tehran and its long-standing adversaries in recent years. The operation is said to have targeted high-value command structures and security compounds in and around the Iranian capital.
Trump stated that advanced US intelligence and tracking systems, operating in close coordination with Israeli forces, made it impossible for Khamenei and other senior officials to evade the strikes. Reports indicate that several high-ranking Iranian military commanders were also killed during the operation.
“This is not only justice for the people of Iran, but for Americans and others around the world who have suffered at the hands of his regime”, Trump said.
The White House further urged members of Iran’s security apparatus, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), to lay down their arms, offering immunity in exchange for cooperation. US officials framed the moment as a potential turning point for political transformation within Iran.
