Former Senator representing Ogun Central, Iyabo Obasanjo, on Wednesday met with women groups and labour union leaders in Abeokuta, pledging to deliver credible, inclusive and continuity-driven governance if elected governor of Ogun State in 2027.

The engagement, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, drew participants from professional women associations, artisan groups and civil society organisations across the state.

Addressing the gathering, Obasanjo said sustainable development in Ogun could only be achieved through deliberate policy continuity rather than the abandonment of projects at every change of administration.

She maintained that her governorship aspiration was anchored on consolidating existing gains in infrastructure, education, healthcare and economic development, while introducing reforms that would prioritise women, youths and vulnerable groups.

Expressing confidence in the leadership of the ruling party, Obasanjo commended President Bola Tinubu and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, describing them as stabilising forces within the All Progressives Congress.

“I am really happy with the kind of leadership the APC has both at the state and national levels.

The President has made APC a party of choice, and Governor Dapo Abiodun has proven to be a good leader of the party in this state. I will ensure that APC guarantees continuity in Ogun,” she said.

According to her, governance should be viewed as a relay rather than a sprint, stressing that institutional memory and consistency are critical to long-term development.

“If entrusted with the mandate in 2027, my administration will be anchored on credibility, competence and compassion. We will not run a government of exclusion.

“Women will not merely be mobilisers during elections; they will be decision-makers at the highest levels of governance,” she added.

The former senator also promised to operate an open government driven by accountability and measurable outcomes, assuring stakeholders that transparency would be non-negotiable under her watch.

“Budgets will not just be numbers on paper; they will translate into tangible improvements in schools, hospitals, roads and job opportunities. We will publish, we will explain and we will be accountable,” she said.

Obasanjo further urged women to take active roles in strengthening democratic culture in the state by promoting peaceful participation and issue-based engagement as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
