The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, will on Friday deliver the keynote address at a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics conference organised by Rockcity FM in collaboration with the Rockcity Centre for Media and Leadership Development.

The conference, scheduled to hold at Taidob College in Abeokuta, will also feature the official launch of the Rockcity Centre for Media and Leadership Development.

Salako-Oyedele is expected to speak on the theme, “Building a Future-Ready STEM Ecosystem in Ogun State.”

According to a statement issued by the Chief Executive Officer of Rockcity FM, Niran Malaolu, the event forms part of efforts to strengthen youth capacity in science, digital literacy and leadership development across the state and the wider South-West region.

The conference will be chaired by the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Saka Matemilola, whose leadership the organisers described as pivotal to community-driven educational advancement.

About 200 participants are expected at the programme, including 100 students and 40 teachers drawn from 20 public and private secondary schools, alongside about 50 resource persons and dignitaries.

The organisers said the initiative is particularly designed to encourage girls to pursue careers in STEM fields, especially in underserved communities.

Activities lined up for the event include keynote presentations, expert lectures, mentorship sessions and interactive dialogues aimed at inspiring students to explore opportunities in science and technology.

The guest speaker is Titilola Aderonke Samuel, Head of the Department of Biochemistry at University of Lagos.

Other dignitaries expected at the event include former Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello; former Commissioner for Environment, Tony Ojeshina; and the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abayomi Arigbabu.

Also expected are the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye; the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Wasiu Isiaka; and the Director of the International Press Centre, Lanre Arogundade.

Malaolu said the launch of the Rockcity Centre for Media and Leadership Development represents a strategic expansion of Rockcity FM’s commitment to development communication, youth capacity building and ethical media practice.

He noted that the centre would focus on media and digital literacy, STEM advocacy, leadership training for young people, as well as solutions journalism and civic education.

The organisers described the conference as a timely intervention aimed at addressing widening gaps in STEM access, particularly among girls, while strengthening institutional support for a sustainable STEM ecosystem in the state.
