The People’s Redemption Party candidate for the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State, Praise Ayodele, has promised to industrialise the state by leveraging its agricultural resources.

Ayodele said his agenda is designed to reposition the state for sustainable growth and development. He added that the establishment of cottage industries across all 16 local government areas would create jobs for the state’s youth, while other sectors of the economy would also be developed.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Saturday while flagging off the party’s governorship campaign, Ayodele criticised the incumbent All Progressives Congress government, saying it had failed to positively impact residents’ lives.

He said, “We want to make positive impacts on the lives of our people. PRP government in Ekiti State will provide massive job creation for teeming youths through industrialisation across the 16 local government areas. We will prioritise the empowerment of women and youths through innovation-driven initiatives.

“Agriculture has remained a major economic pillar for Ekiti State. My administration will focus on integrating agricultural production with industrial and agro-industrial processing to create greater economic value.

“For too long, Ekiti has depended largely on agricultural produce. Agriculture will remain important, but our goal is to move from an economy that relies solely on primary production to one that combines agriculture with industrial and agro-industrial development.

“Our government will establish cottage industries across the 16 local government areas of the state. The industries will support local manufacturing and ensure value addition to agricultural products produced in the state. With this, no fewer than 1,000 jobs will be created in each of the local government areas.”

Ayodele identified electricity supply as a key factor for economic growth and said he would explore constitutional provisions allowing states to generate electricity.

“Within four years in office, we will work decisively to ensure that Ekiti enjoys 24-hour uninterrupted electricity supply. Stable power will support industries, businesses and households across the state,” he said.

He also called on party members and residents to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the June 20 election.

PRP National Secretary, Babatunde Alli, who presented the party flag to Ayodele, expressed confidence in the candidate’s blueprint for transforming the state and urged voters to support him. He noted that the PRP has consistently implemented people-oriented programmes aimed at improving citizens’ livelihoods.

PRP State Chairman, Ademola Adedayo, appealed to party members to carry the party’s message to grassroots communities, saying, “We are here to make our state better and create a conducive environment for all to thrive.”
