The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has rejected the reported dissolution of its State Executive Committee, insisting that the leadership of the party in the state remains intact.

The party described the purported dissolution as a misleading claim aimed at creating confusion and disaffection within its ranks.

Addressing newsmen at a press conference held in Abeokuta,  on Friday, by the Ogun State Chairman of the PDP, Abayomi Tella, urged members, supporters and the public to disregard what it called a “distasteful innuendo” circulating on social media regarding the alleged dissolution.

Tella maintained that the current Ogun PDP executive , remains the only legitimate leadership recognised by the party.

“For the umpteenth time, the current Ogun State PDP Executive under the chairmanship of Dr Abayomi Tella, which was elected and inaugurated on September 24, 2024, remains the only legitimate organ of our great party in Ogun State as recognised and ratified by the National Executive Committee,” he said.

He described the report of the dissolution as “another despicable attempt by some idle minds to sow a seed of discord in the PDP family in Ogun State,” stressing that the authors of the claim lacked the constitutional authority to issue such a directive.

The party further warned that any attempt by what it described as agents provocateurs or dissident groups to destabilise the party in the state would be resisted through lawful means.

Tella  also urged party members and supporters not to be distracted by the development but to remain focused on strengthening the party’s growing acceptance in Ogun State.

However, a statement earlier issued by the National Caretaker Working Committee of the PDP announced the dissolution of the Ogun State Executive Committee with immediate effect.

The statement, signed by the committee’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, said the decision was taken by the national leadership of the party.

“The National Caretaker Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party hereby announces the dissolution of the Ogun State Executive Committee with immediate effect,” the statement read.

The committee also appreciated members of the dissolved executive for their contributions to the growth and development of the party in the state, adding that a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the party in Ogun State would be announced soon.
