Osun PDP group seeks Wike’s intervention in state crisis

A pressure group within the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, the Reset Group of Osun PDP, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the caretaker national leadership of the party to urgently intervene and prevent what it described as a further collapse of the party’s structure in the state.

This was contained in a letter signed by the President and Secretary of the group, Akinwale Oyetunde and Adeyeye Olugbenga addressed to the chairman of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, Abdulrahaman Mohammed, and Wike.

A copy of the letter was obtained in Osogbo on Friday by our correspondent.

The group stated that the actions of the Osun PDP leadership led by Sunday Bisi were undermining the party and pushing members towards other political platforms.

To save the party from extinction, the group demanded the dissolution of the PDP State Working Committee led by Bisi, saying the leadership crisis in the Osun chapter deepened after the state executives participated in the Ibadan convention, which was later nullified by the Court of Appeal.

It also alleged that the State Working Committee had openly backed Governor Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the Accord Party in the August 15 poll, without the approval of the PDP’s National Working Committee.

“The state leadership has endorsed the Accord candidate, Governor Adeleke, without the official concurrence of the National Working Committee.

“They have directed PDP members to register with the Accord Party. They have perfected plans not to allow any PDP member to contest under the platform. This was done in cohort with some very senior members of the present NWC loyal to Minister Wike,” the group said.

It warned that the actions of the State Working Committee would ultimately weaken the PDP in Osun and erode its political relevance ahead of future elections.

While acknowledging his influence within the party, the group urged Wike and the national leadership of the PDP to dissolve the current Osun State executives and appoint a caretaker committee that would allow aspirants to freely contest elective offices ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Before now, two different groups had been laying claim to the PDP leadership in Osun as uncertainty mounts over the fate of aspirants interested in contesting for the party’s ticket in the 2027 elections.

The PUNCH reports that the PDP national leadership loyal to Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, had dissolved the Osun PDP State Working Committee led by Bisi and replaced it with a caretaker committee headed by Tunde Tijani.

However, the Working Committee rejected its dissolution, insisting that “no amount of external pressure, unlawful national posturing, or recycled intimidation can invalidate a structure that derives its legitimacy from due process and the collective will of party members in Osun State.”

The committee also urged members to remain calm, vigilant, and focused.
