ADC Chair Alleges N100m Given to Kingibe Before FCT Polls, Says ‘We Saw Nothing’

The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Abuja Municipal Area Council, Mr. Omale Sule, has alleged that the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Ireti Kingibe, received N100 million from the party’s national leadership.

He said the senator received the money ahead of the recent Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory but failed to deploy the funds to support the party’s grassroots campaign.

Sule made the allegation while addressing journalists in Abuja on Friday, claiming that the money reportedly given to the senator did not translate into any visible benefit for the party at the local level during the polls.

According to him, members of the party in the council were aware that the funds had been released but said the chapter did not receive any financial support for mobilisation or campaign activities.

“We heard that N100 million was given to Senator Ireti Kingibe from ADC National just before the FCT local government election, but we never saw anything from her,” Sule said.

The council chairman also accused the senator of allegedly sidelining the party’s established structure in the territory and failing to maintain regular engagement with party leaders.

He said the situation had created discontent among members who expected stronger coordination between the senator and the party’s local leadership ahead of the election.

“The worst of all is that she never works with the party structure. You cannot create your own structure outside the party’s own. Everybody, even the President of this country today has a ward where he comes from,” Sule added.

He further alleged that Kingibe rarely attended meetings or liaised with party officials at the state and local levels.

“But in our own case here, the only senator we have that is our leader here in the FCT is not attending meetings. She doesn’t even liaise with the state chairmen,” he said.

The allegations are the latest in a series of disputes within the FCT chapter of the ADC, which has been grappling with internal tensions involving the senator.

The party’s national leadership had earlier distanced itself from reports that a ward in the territory suspended Kingibe over alleged anti-party activities.

In addition, a suit has been filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to restrain the lawmaker from parading herself as a member of the party, citing alleged breaches of the party’s constitution and lack of engagement with its structures.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Kingibe nor the national leadership of the ADC had responded to the allegation that she received N100 million ahead of the FCT Area Council elections.
