A former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Yobe State, Dr Ali Tikau, has defected to the African Democratic Congress.

Tikau formally announced his defection on Monday during a ceremony held in his hometown of Tikau in Nangere Local Government Area.

The event attracted a large number of his supporters, political associates and community members who gathered to witness the formal realignment.

As part of the process marking his exit from the PDP, Tikau symbolically surrendered his party membership card to ward executives. The card was received by the Chairman of the PDP Tikau Ward, Samaila Jalamawa, alongside the ward secretary.

The former PDP chieftain was officially received into the ADC, where he was presented with a membership card by Babangida Dagare, who represented the state chairman of the party.

Other ward officials present at the event included the Youth Leader, Ali Garba Tikau; the Organising Secretary, Salisu Ibrahim; and Adamu Hassan.

Tikau, who previously served as Executive Secretary of the National Primary Education Commission, contested the governorship seat in Yobe State under the PDP in both the 2011 and 2023 elections.

Addressing journalists shortly after the ceremony, the politician said his decision to leave the PDP followed wide consultations with his supporters and political allies.

According to him, the move was part of efforts to explore new political opportunities that would help promote development and progress in his community and across the state.

“Having served the PDP peacefully for many years, we have collectively resolved to join the ADC to foster comprehensive development for our community,” he said.

Tikau also pledged his commitment to strengthening the ADC and mobilising support for the party ahead of future elections.

“We are fully committed to working relentlessly to ensure the success of the ADC in all elections, from the local to the national level, come 2027,” he added.

He further urged his supporters to remain united and committed to the party’s ideals, expressing confidence that the ADC would provide a viable platform to advance the aspirations of the people.
