2027: Ifo Group Demands Reps Seat, Rejects Isiaka’s Continued Stay

A coalition of constituents in Ogun State, under the aegis of Ifo Lokan 2027 MHR Movement, on Tuesday kicked against the reported fourth term ambition of the lawmaker representing Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency, Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka, insisting that the seat be zoned to Ifo Local Government ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group declared that “enough is enough,” stressing that allowing the incumbent to seek another term would undermine fairness, equity and inclusiveness within the All Progressives Congress.

Speaking at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta, the group’s spokesman, Hon. Femi Akala, who led hundreds of constituents to submit a petition to the party leadership, said the agitation was driven by the need to ensure justice and balance in the constituency’s political arrangement.

The petition, addressed to the Ogun State APC Chairman, Yemi Sanusi, was received by the party’s Administrative Secretary, Segun Bankole.

Akala said the movement was unequivocal in its demand that the 2027 House of Representatives ticket for Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency be ceded to Ifo Local Government.

He said, “Our position is clear and non-negotiable. The 2027 ticket must be zoned to Ifo in the interest of fairness, equity and justice. Extending the tenure of the current occupant will contradict the core principles upon which our great party stands.”

The group maintained that its position was not borne out of hostility but a call for inclusiveness and adherence to internal democracy within the APC.

Providing historical context, Akala noted that since 1999, Ewekoro Local Government had held the seat for a longer period compared to Ifo.

He said Ewekoro produced representatives for 16 years through Bamidele Obadina (2007–2011) and the incumbent, Isiaka (2015–2027), while Ifo held the position for 12 years through Abayomi Collins (1999–2007) and Adekunle Adeyemi (2011–2015).

He argued that given Ifo’s larger voter population, higher number of polling units and consistent electoral support for the APC, the local government deserved to produce the next representative.

“This imbalance underscores the need for a fair rotational arrangement between the two local governments,” he added.

The group also anchored its demand on the APC constitution, citing provisions that emphasise equitable distribution of political opportunities.

“Our appeal aligns with Article 20 of the APC Constitution, which promotes fairness, equity and inclusiveness in the party’s structure,” Akala said.

He warned that ignoring the demand for zoning could affect party cohesion within the constituency, adding that conceding the seat to Ifo would strengthen unity and sustain long-term political stability.

“Zoning the seat to Ifo will not weaken the existing partnership between Ifo and Ewekoro; rather, it will deepen trust, reinforce unity and enhance cohesion within the constituency,” he said.

Akala added that the group remained loyal to the party and confident that its leadership would act in line with its guiding principles as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
