March 28, (THEWILL) — United States President, Donald Trump, declared on Saturday that Cuba could be “next” after recent U.S. action in Venezuela and ongoing strategic coalition campaign in Iran.

Trump made the remark during a speech at a major investment forum, saying, “And Cuba’s next, by the way. But pretend I didn’t say that.”

Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, criticised Cuba’s economic system, describing it as ineffective and blaming internal policies for the country’s worsening energy and economic situation.

Recent developments indicate that Cuba’s economic strain has been exacerbated by disruptions in oil imports, particularly from Venezuela, following U.S. actions in the region. The resulting shortages have contributed to power outages, transport challenges, and broader socio-economic difficulties across the island.

Global health authorities have raised concerns. The Director-General of the World Health Organisation, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stressed that healthcare systems must be protected from geopolitical tensions, warning that Cuba’s health services are under pressure due to energy shortages and economic instability.
