April 02, (THEWILL) — In a major shake-up at the United States Department of Justice, President Donald Trump has removed Attorney General Pam Bondi from her post.
THEWILL reports that the Deputy Attorney General, Todd Blanche, Trump’s former personal lawyer, has been appointed acting attorney general to lead the department in the interim.
In a social media post, Trump described Bondi as a “Great American Patriot and a loyal friend” and said she will transition to a role in the private sector.
A report by the Associated Press said Bondi’s removal follows mounting frustration with her performance, including her handling of investigative files related to the late financier and sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.
The report further disclosed that Trump had also grown frustrated that Bondi was not moving quickly enough to prosecute critics and perceived adversaries he wanted to face criminal charges.
During her tenure as the nation’s top law enforcement official, Bondi was a combative champion of Trump’s agenda, challenging the Justice Department’s longstanding tradition of independence. Repeated criticism over her handling of the Epstein files, including from Trump allies and some Republican lawmakers, dominated her tenure. She was accused of mismanaging or covering up the release of records from the DOJ’s sex trafficking investigations into Epstein, a controversy that created political headaches for Trump and renewed scrutiny of his past friendship with Epstein—a relationship he says ended decades ago.
