The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Rilwan Disu, has visited Jos following the tragic attack in Angwan Rukuba, which claimed 27 lives and left 19 others injured, assuring residents that those responsible will be brought to justice.

During his visit, IGP Disu expressed deep sorrow over the incident and reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to restore peace and stability in the area.

He met with members of the affected community, visited hospitals where the injured are receiving treatment, and offered words of comfort and reassurance.

As at press time, seven suspects have already been arrested in connection with the attack, including an individual impersonating a soldier.

The IGP add that investigations are ongoing to ensure all perpetrators are brought to book.

At the Government House in Jos, the IGP held discussions with Plateau State Governor Caleb Muftwang and members of the State Executive Council. He described the attack as painful and unacceptable, pledging that justice would be served.

Governor Muftwang commended the IGP for his prompt visit and action, describing it as timely and reassuring during a period of grief.

He also lauded the swift deployment of the Deputy Inspector-General in charge of Operations, noting that it helped stabilise the situation shortly after the attack.

The Governor praised the state Commissioner of Police for his leadership and professionalism and acknowledged the courage of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the Mobile Police units, whose efforts were critical in managing the crisis.

While appreciating the police’s efforts, Governor Muftwang appealed for the deployment of additional personnel to the state, emphasising that their presence provides a sense of security for residents.

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to working closely with the police, stressing that strong security is essential for protecting lives, attracting investors, and boosting the economy.

The visit by IGP Disu underscores the seriousness of the incident and highlights the joint commitment of the Nigeria Police Force and the Plateau State Government to restore peace and stability in the region.
