The Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto has dismissed a staff member, Malam Garba Ahmed, over his involvement in the illegal mobilisation of unqualified graduates for the National Youth Service Corps.

The decision was approved at the institution’s 176th Governing Council meeting held on April 1, 2026, according to a statement issued on Friday by the university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Ismaila Mohammed Yauri.

Ahmed, who worked in the Registry Department, was found guilty of uploading the names of ineligible candidates for the NYSC scheme, an act the university described as a gross violation of its regulations and established NYSC guidelines.

Yauri said the dismissal followed a thorough internal investigation, which established that the former staff member engaged in unauthorised manipulation of the mobilisation process.

“The Governing Council approved the dismissal of Malam Garba Ahmed after he was found guilty of illegally uploading unqualified students for NYSC mobilisation,” the statement read.

He added that the sanction takes immediate effect, stressing that the university maintains a zero-tolerance stance on misconduct.

According to him, due process was followed in handling the case, noting that the action reflects the institution’s commitment to accountability, transparency and the protection of its integrity.

The university further warned staff members to adhere strictly to professional ethics and laid-down procedures in the discharge of their duties.

The management also noted that the decisive action should serve as a deterrent to others, both within the institution and across the nation’s tertiary education system, against circumventing regulatory frameworks.

It reaffirmed its resolve to safeguard the credibility of its academic and administrative processes, adding that additional measures may be introduced to prevent a recurrence and ensure strict compliance with NYSC mobilisation rules.
