The National Sports Commission has hailed 16-year-old Guinness World Record holder, Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, for completing a 687-kilometre cycling journey from Enugu to Lagos in a campaign to promote autism awareness.
The commission, in a statement posted on its X handle on Monday, described the feat as a remarkable display of endurance and determination by the teenager.
NSC said Tagbo-Okeke arrived in Lagos on April 2, 2026, after traversing multiple states.
It noted that his arrival marked a defining moment, as he was received by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at Lagos House, Marina, in recognition of both his achievement and advocacy.
According to the commission, the journey, driven by a nationwide autism awareness campaign, united communities and institutions along the route while amplifying a message of inclusion, ability, and opportunity.
“Congratulations: Nigeria celebrates a remarkable display of endurance and determination by 16-year-old Guinness World Record holder Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, who completed a 687KM cycling journey from Enugu to Lagos, arriving on April 2, 2026 after traversing multiple states.
“Already globally recognised for his Guinness World Record achievement in art, Kanyeyachukwu continues to expand his impact through sport, using endurance as a platform to challenge perceptions and inspire a new generation,” the statement read.
The commission added that the feat underscores the broader role of sports in promoting social inclusion and youth development in Nigeria.
“For the National Sports Commission, this is more than a journey completed. It is a clear demonstration of how sport can drive inclusion, inspire belief, and showcase the strength and potential of Nigeria’s youth,” it stated.
Kanyeyachukwu, who previously gained global recognition for setting the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest art canvas in 2025 with his painting titled “Impossibility is a Myth.”
He has continued to leverage his platform to advocate for autism awareness and inclusivity across the country through sport.
His cycling journey from Enugu to Lagos is seen as part of ongoing efforts to raise awareness and challenge societal perceptions about individuals living with autism.
