Former Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has disclosed that supporters have raised about N188 million to back his 2027 governorship ambition in Yobe State.
Lawan, who currently represents Yobe North Senatorial District, said the funds were generated during a fundraising event held on Sunday in Damaturu.
In a statement issued on Monday, the lawmaker expressed appreciation to the Coalition of Yobe East Progressive Youths, led by Mohammed Yerima, for organising the initiative.
He explained that the amount was realised through a combination of pledges, cash donations, and bank transfers paid into a dedicated campaign account.
The former Senate President, however, emphasised that the most remarkable aspect of the exercise was the participation of ordinary citizens, many of whom made modest contributions.
According to him, donations ranged between N100 and N3,000, with contributors including widows, traders, students, and mechanic apprentices.
Lawan described the development as a reflection of grassroots involvement and collective ownership of his political aspiration.
He said, “That, to me, is the true definition of grassroots participation and community ownership.
“You have not only raised funds for forms; you have redefined what it means to be progressive citizens of Yobe State.”
The senator added that the support underscores a shared vision among the people to entrench transparency and accountability in governance.
He reiterated that his ambition to govern the state was driven by a desire to serve the people and respond to their call for leadership.
“My desire to serve is to answer the call of our people. May Allah continue to direct and guide us in this endeavour,” he said.
