April 07, (THEWILL) — Iran’s newly-appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is currently under specialised medical care in Qom, following injuries sustained in the February 28 airstrike that claimed the life of his father, Ali Khamenei.
According to The Times UK, Khamenei is being treated in a well-equipped medical facility in Qom, a city renowned for its religious significance and strong health infrastructure.
Qom, located roughly 140 km south of Tehran, is not only a centre of Shia Islamic scholarship but also home to internationally respected medical and research facilities, capable of handling complex cases requiring continuous monitoring and specialist care.
While he is reported to be temporarily unable to participate in formal decision-making, his treatment reflects a swift and capable institutional response.
Iranian authorities have confirmed that despite the Supreme Leader’s health challenges, state functions remain uninterrupted, and the governance framework continues to operate with stability.
Senior Iranian officials have reiterated that the Supreme Leadership institution remains strong and that strategic matters continue to be addressed through established constitutional channels. Public statements attributed to Khamenei have been broadcast on state media, and recent recordings show him reviewing security briefings, demonstrating sustained leadership engagement.
