24 Hours After Atiku, El-Rufai’s Visit, APC Leaders Meet Buhari In Kaduna

Barely 24 hours after opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai and other leaders of opposition parties paid a visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari, top leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress have met with the ex-leader in his Kaduna residence.

The delegation, led by the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, comprised members of the party’s National Working Committee who met with Buhari on Sunday.

The visit, according to observers, reveals the deepening political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Photos from the meeting showed Ganduje and other APC chieftains in discussion with Buhari, who had earlier received PDP heavyweights including Atiku, El-Rufai and other political figures at the same location.

While details of both meetings remain largely undisclosed, political analysts suggest that the back-to-back visits to Buhari by opposition and ruling party figures point to his continued influence in Nigeria’s political landscape, despite leaving office nearly a year ago.

The former President had, just days before these visits, received serving governors elected on the APC platform, further fuelling speculations of his active role in shaping future political alliances.

Buhari, who has largely kept a low profile since exiting Aso Rock, recently reaffirmed his commitment to the APC amid rising internal party tensions and realignments.

His media aide, Garba Shehu, in a recent statement, said, “Without referring to any individual, cast of characters, or issues, principles and ideals currently being discussed by Party leaders at various levels, former President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated what he’s said times without number, that he is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and would like to be addressed as a loyal member of the party.”

The proximity of the opposition’s visit to that of the APC hierarchy has sparked debates over possible political permutations involving the former president, who remains a rallying figure for various political blocs seeking legitimacy or strategic endorsement ahead of the next electoral cycle.
