The ancient city of Ilesa, Osun State, has worn a new look in preparation for the official coronation of the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, His Imperial Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, as the 41st Owa of Ijesaland.
For the people of Ilesa, it is a happy and defining moment as well as a new dawn. The occasion would also signal a new beginning for the new ruling house.
When the former monarch, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran died at 87 on September 2024, many of his family members, friends and business associates were thrown into prolonged mourning. This was not unexpected considering his towering status in life.
But amid the tearful moments, one of the thoughts in the inner recesses of some prominent citizens in Ilesa was finding another worthy ‘son of the soil’ who would step into his large shoes as the new king.
For months, the seemingly tortuous search for a fitting replacement for the Owa of Obokun, who must be very wealthy, powerful, influential and well-connected, went on.
But at last, after wider consultations, Haastrup, a highly revered statesman and former Deputy Governor of Osun State, was officially declared successor to the late monarch.
Though his emergence, Society Watch gathered, was initially received with mixed feelings, it was quickly put to rest after he held out an olive branch to some of the aggrieved.
As quote by Philip Treacy “Royalty is completely different from celebrity. Royalty has a magic all its own.”
Haastrup oozes class, grace and elegance. So, it didn’t take long before he was accepted by the citizens of Ilesa. He became the popular choice based on his influence and connection that spread beyond the state, as well as his almost unmatched generosity.
Haastrup, who is said to see royalty as ‘service to humanity’, comes from the ruling house with an intimidating résumé. He is known as a wealth creator because of his awesome ability to get things started.
It was gathered that the Palace of the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland has unveiled a 10-day coronation program to celebrate his ascension that will commence on May 16, 2025, and culminate in a grand coronation ceremony on May 23, 2025.
