The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has praised the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) as a cornerstone of governance in Nigeria, crediting its revenue collection for enabling major government projects across federal, state, and local levels.

During the inauguration of a joint FIRS-RMAFC Technical Committee at FIRS headquarters in Abuja, RMAFC Commissioner and Inland Revenue Monitoring Committee (IRMC) Chairman, Bimbo Kolade, noted that FIRS’s tax revenues, which accounted for about 65% of funds shared among the three tiers of government in 2024, allow governments to plan and execute development projects.

“Without the efficient performance of the Service, Nigerians would have felt the weight of economic hardship even more severely,” Kolade stated.

Kolade attributed FIRS’s success to Dr Zacch Adedeji, Executive Chairman since September 2023. “If not for the wonderful job Dr Adedeji has been doing, the economic challenges facing the country would have been much worse,” he said, also praising Adedeji’s role in advancing tax reform bills and resolving early VAT allocation disputes between RMAFC and FIRS.

He outlined IRMC’s role in monitoring revenue inflows, ensuring transparency in taxes like VAT and Companies Income Tax (CIT). “Our job is to ensure that taxes are fully collected and properly remitted,” Kolade noted, emphasising FIRS’s critical role in Nigeria’s fiscal stability.
