June 13, (THEWILL) – Israel on Friday launched a wide-ranging military offensive against Iran, targeting key sites linked to the country’s nuclear programme and long-range missile infrastructure.
In a televised statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strikes were aimed at the “heart of Iran’s nuclear enrichment and weaponisation programme.”
Netanyahu stated, “We struck at the heart of Iran’s nuclear weaponization programme.
“This is a targeted military operation to roll back the Iranian threat to Israel’s very survival.”
He vowed that the operation would continue for as long as necessary, adding, “Israel will never allow those who call for our annihilation to develop the means to achieve that goal. Tonight, Israel backs those words with action.”
According to the Prime Minister, Israeli forces specifically targeted Iran’s main uranium enrichment facility in Natanz, key figures among its nuclear scientists, and infrastructure tied to its ballistic missile programme.
In response to the strikes, Israel declared a nationwide state of emergency and closed its airspace, diverting all incoming and outgoing flights to neighbouring countries, local Hebrew-language media reported.
Iranian state media confirmed multiple explosions in and around the capital, Tehran. Loud blasts were also reported in other parts of the city, sparking panic among residents.
As a precaution, Iranian authorities suspended all flights at Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran.
The escalating confrontation marks one of the most serious military engagements between the two countries in recent history, with global attention now focused on Iran’s expected response.
