…submit application under All Democratic Alliance platform
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a group of prominent opposition figures under the aegis of the Nigeria National Coalition Group (NNCG) has adopted a new political platform, All Democratic Alliance (ADA), and formally approached the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for registration.
The coalition, which includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Senate President David Mark, and the Convener of the League of Northern Democrats, Dr. Umar Ardo, submitted their application for party registration on Wednesday.
The formal request, dated June 19, 2025, and stamped received by INEC on June 20, was addressed to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and co-signed by ADA’s National Chairman, Chief Akin Ricketts, and Protem National Secretary, Abdullahi Musa Elayo.
Titled “Application for Registration as a Political Party”, the letter outlined the coalition’s decision to back the ADA as a new party with the slogan “Justice for All.”
> “We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance, as a political party,” the letter read in part.
The group explained that the move was a result of a consensus reached within the coalition to establish a new platform that would offer all members equal standing, in contrast to joining existing parties riddled with internal disputes.
Attached to the application were key documents including the party’s constitution, manifesto, logo, flag, and minutes of meetings — all in compliance with Section 40 and 222 of the Nigerian Constitution and Section 75 of the Electoral Act, 2022.
The letter added that the ADA’s ideology is anchored on democratic values, social justice, and inclusive governance.
The coalition had previously considered aligning with existing opposition parties such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP). However, concerns over factional crises and legal tussles in those parties reportedly influenced the decision to pursue a fresh registration.
Sources within the group say the ADA is expected to serve as a unifying force for opposition politicians and technocrats disenchanted with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the current political configuration.
If successfully registered, the ADA will become a new force in the political landscape ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested 2027 presidential race.
