From the dusty chalkboards of Nigerian classrooms to the global stage of international recognition, Dr. Matthew Damilola Omojemite has emerged as one of Africa’s most dynamic voices in education reform, gender advocacy, and cyber-literacy. His recent honor, the Global Recognition Award cements his status as a rising force in the global education and policy space.

But behind the acclaim is a journey marked by relentless pursuit, deeply rooted values, and a firm belief that education when done right can heal systems and shape futures.

A Humble Beginning, A Global Vision
Dr. Omojemite’s story begins in Nigeria, where he trained as a social studies educator before expanding into policy, research, and ultimately global advocacy. His early work with pre-service teachers, especially in underserved communities, sparked his passion for preventive education using curriculum not just to inform, but to safeguard and empower.

He went on to earn a PhD in Subject Education in Social Sciences from the prestigious University of the Free State in South Africa, where his research focused on cybercrime prevention and Postdoctoral Fellowship with the Walter Sisulu University, South Africa focusing on gender mainstreaming hereby incorporating two research fields rarely tackled together. That decision would set him apart in academic and policy circles.

Omojemite recalls in a recent interview. “I didn’t want to follow the usual route, I wanted to tackle hard questions, how to protect children and youths online, how to ensure women have a voice in the society and education technology, and how curriculum can be a tool of justice, not just knowledge.”

The Global Recognition Award: More Than a Trophy
In June 2025, Dr. Omojemite was selected as a recipient of the Global Recognition Award (Research Category), an honor given to professionals demonstrating outstanding leadership, innovation, and measurable impact in their field. The award highlighted not only his academic contributions, but his practical work with education systems in Nigeria, South Africa, and the United States.
His recognition comes at a time when global education systems are grappling with the triple burden of digital inequity, gender gaps, and cyber threats.

“Matthew represents a new kind of educator, one who understands both the system and the street,” said a representative from the awarding body. “He’s equally at home drafting policy, training teachers, or conducting grassroots workshops on digital safety.”

The Impact of His Work
Dr. Omojemite’s influence cuts across continents. In Nigeria, his work led to the development of cyber-literacy modules for pre-service teachers, many of whom now work in vulnerable communities. In South Africa, his gender advocacy initiatives were incorporated into university and local authorities’ policy dialogue. And now, in the United States, he runs Matrosy LLC, an education and consultancy firm focused on cybercrime prevention, teacher training, and inclusive policy development.
What makes his work distinctive is its fusion of academic rigor and street-level relevance. He doesn’t just write policy papers he tests them, iterates them, and brings them to life.
“Most educational interventions don’t fail because of bad ideas or implementation, they fail because no one bridges the gap between research and reality,” Omojemite often says.

Throughout his work, a constant theme is inclusion. His research on gender mainstreaming advocates not just for women’s or girl-child representation, but for structural equity across all educational and societal levels. His consulting engagements push institutions to redesign curriculum with an awareness of both cultural and digital realities, especially in marginalized communities.
He is also a sought-after peer reviewer for journals such as PLOS ONE, Cogent Education, AJESS and IJER, and has spoken at major conferences addressing the intersections of education, gender, and digital safety.

What’s Next?
Looking ahead, Dr. Omojemite plans to launch a CyberSafe Classroom Initiative in U.S. public schools, targeting pre-service and in-service teachers with practical cybersecurity training. He also intends to scale his gender-inclusion models across university programs in Africa and North America, leveraging his growing network of institutional partners.

His work through Matrosy LLC is also expanding, with plans to recruit educational consultants, curriculum developers, and gender researchers creating jobs and thought leadership opportunities within the sector.

A Beacon of Hope and Grit
For many young Africans, Dr. Matthew Omojemite represents what is possible when one dares to dream beyond borders. His ascent fuelled by academic discipline, global collaboration, and unwavering belief in education as justice reminds us that one educator can change lives, systems, and the world.

“My goal has always been clear,” he says. “To educate in a way that doesn’t just inform but transforms.”
