Africa’s biggest club party, Roadblock Party, has inaugurated the first of its kind live drafting exercise to select disc jockeys that will feature in the 2nd edition of the dance festival.

The draft, which held recently at the Roadblock Studio in Lagos and streamed live on Instagram, picked Ayorinde Kehinde Okiki aka DJ Kaywise and Olayinka Lawal aka DJ Mule in the first batch.

The Roadblock Party commenced by 2pm with the theme song rendered by Cassandra Eiremiokhae. The first draw produced the internationally acclaimed DJ Kaywise and a call was put through to him where he confirmed his availability for the 2nd edition. The sequence followed after a brief time out and it produced DJ YK Mule, who also confirmed his availability for the club party.

With the theme: ‘Pleasure Dome: The Return of Saints and Sinners’, the 2nd edition of the Roadblock Party is slated for Saturday, October 4 at the Balmoral, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Refreshed by Desperados from the stable of Nigerian Breweries, Roadblock is the biggest dance festival on the continent, transforming large indoor venues into Africa’s biggest club. It is known for its inclusive ethos of peace, love, unity and respect (PLUR).

Speaking on the new introduction to the growing Roadblock brand, the platform’s patron, Dr. Felix King said that the draft is introduced to give every Nigerian DJ equal opportunity to participate in the Roadblock Party.

“This is designed to show transparency and credibility on the Roadblock Party’s recruitment of artistes, because the Roadblock has become a platform in which every DJ wants to feature. But we cannot afford to have every DJ in Nigeria on the show, so we have to give all of them equal opportunity through live drafting,” he noted.

According to King, Roadblock is the largest indoor Afrocentric dance event where attendees are required to wear all-white or all-black dress, and the arena itself is decorated to match. The party attracts Gen Zs and Gen Zs-at-heart wanting to explore positive freedom.

The inaugural edition, which took place at Balmoral, Ikeja, Lagos on Saturday, April 19, attracted over 3,000 energetic vibrant partygoers and they were refreshed by Desperados beer. It featured a wide array of dejays including Dope Caesar, DJ Consequence, DJ Kaywise, Tolani Baj, Maze x Mxtreme, DJ Biosky, and DJ Bootylicious from Cameroon, including Hype artists like Do2dtun and Jimmie.
