Nigeria’s pioneer female talking drummer and cultural ambassador, Aralola Olamuyiwa aka Ara, displayed a rare musical brilliance last weekend as she thrilled Vice President Kashim Shettima and Geraldo Alckmin, Vice President of Brazil, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
In a historic showcase of cultural diplomacy, Ara captivated the distinguished personalities, including the Brazilian Ambassador to Nigeria, Carlos Garcete and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, who all gave her a standing ovation.
The event fostered a vibrant cultural exchange between Nigeria and Brazil, and also highlighted the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening international relations. Ara’s presence and performance indeed symbolised Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, leaving a lasting impression on the dignitaries.
In a deeply symbolic gesture, Ara presented a specially branded talking drum to Alckmin who rose from his seat to receive the gift, applauding Ara’s artistry and Nigeria’s cultural warmth.
Speaking, Ara said: “It was more than a performance. It was a bridge between continents, a moment of mutual respect and shared rhythm. I am deeply honoured.”
