Talented Nigerian actress, singer, and media personality, Bisola Aiyeola, has opened up about her evolving views on marriage, and the pursuit of happiness, in a rare and heartfelt conversation on the Dear Ife podcast hosted by Ifedayo Agoro.
At 39, the Big Brother Naija alumna and mother of one says she has come to terms with being single, not out of bitterness, but from a place of self-awareness and prioritising peace, financial independence, and emotional balance.
“I’m not really keen on marriage any longer. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, it’s okay too. I gave myself an age marker; I don’t want to have babies after I clock 38. I have passed 38 and no man yet, so, I am just here and not actively looking forward to it. I think I have gotten used to being alone. I love, love, I still do. Love is sweet, it’s nice it’s a beautiful thing, but reality is a different story. Marriage is not a do-or-die affair. There are so many more things one can aspire to be besides getting married. I am not desperate for marriage,” she stated.
The actress, known for her wit and infectious energy, clarified that her decision was not entirely rooted in heartbreak, but rather a growing awareness of how the institution of marriage is not always as sacred as once believed.
“Not really, but yes, disappointments here and there. I also realised the marriage institution isn’t as sacred as I thought with so many people. Would I love to be loved? Yes. If marriage happens, it would be beautiful. But I don’t even think I would have a big wedding if it does.”
For Bisola, financial stability and freedom now take precedence over romantic entanglements.
“It is not just about age, I also want money. Like real money. For me, money comes first. So that I can do all things that I want to do, travel around the world with or without a partner,” she added.
