When his night club, Proxy, was raided a few weeks ago by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), socialite and businessman, Mike Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, thought it was just one of those little hiccups in business. He never envisaged that it was the beginning of many troubles to come.
At the outset of the matter, he had wrongfully thought that he could escape justice owing to his influence in society. The nightclub owner relied on his connections and a rich network of friends and patrons in high places to get him out of trouble. He pressed buttons, made necessary calls, but nothing came out of his efforts.
A source revealed to Society Watch that the NDLEA is tightening the noose around his neck.
Last Tuesday, Justice Musa Kakaki of the Federal High Court in Lagos ordered the interim forfeiture of his property linked to drug-related offences.
The property, located at No. 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, was temporarily forfeited following an ex parte application by Barrister Buhari Abdullahi, counsel to the NDLEA.
In the application, Abdullahi urged the court to grant an interim forfeiture order in favour of the Federal Government, noting that the property, which houses Proxy Lagos Night Club, was allegedly used for drug dealing and abuse. He also claimed the club was allegedly preparing to host a large-scale drug party before it was busted by the NDLEA.
