The Omoluabi Parapo Conservative Group has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent declaration of a state of emergency on insecurity, describing it as a decisive move to curb rising criminal activities across Nigeria.
The group’s Convener, Obabìnrin Aderonke Okeleye, in a statement on Friday, said the President’s action demonstrates strong political will to protect citizens and safeguard national development from the “increasingly audacious activities of criminal elements.”
Okeleye called on security agencies to seize the opportunity to deepen collaboration, strengthen operational strategies, and prioritise intelligence-driven approaches to protect vulnerable communities nationwide.
While praising the federal initiative, she urged South-West governors to complement the effort by bolstering local security structures, particularly the Amotekun Corps, and investing in community-based surveillance and early-warning systems.
“Insecurity in the South-West has taken new dimensions in recent years. This is the moment to modernise security infrastructure, enhance coordination, and ensure no community is left exposed,” she said.
Okeleye also emphasised the role of technology in security management, including drone surveillance and rapid-response mechanisms, while encouraging traditional rulers, community leaders, and civil society groups to work closely with government authorities.
“The Omoluabi ethos is rooted in peace, discipline, and communal responsibility. Security is the foundation for every aspiration of our people,” she added.
In a separate weekend press engagement, Okeleye highlighted rising cases of banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and communal tensions in the region, stressing the need for stronger, coordinated interventions from political and traditional institutions.
She said traditional rulers are vital to grassroots intelligence, while governors have the mandate to coordinate internal security systems.
“The safety of our people must be non-negotiable. South-West leaders must rise above political differences to protect our land,” she stated.
Okeleye also commended South-West governors for their recent strategic meeting in Ibadan, describing it as a “timely and unified intervention” addressing security, economic integration, and cultural preservation.
She urged continued collaboration among political leaders, traditional institutions, and civic groups to ensure that the meeting’s resolutions yield tangible benefits for residents.
The Omoluabi Parapo Conservative Group reiterated its commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence, civic responsibility, and the protection of Yoruba interests within Nigeria’s democratic framework.
