Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has expressed his disappointment following Sevilla’s 2-0 defeat to city rivals Real Betis, insisting that both he and his teammates must work harder to turn the tide, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The defeat at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán marked Sevilla’s first loss to Betis at home since January 2018, ending a long-standing advantage in the Seville derby.

Speaking to El Sevillista after the match, Adams said, “I’m not happy. It’s not just the defeat, but the way it happened. It’s a tough feeling. There are no excuses. We have to work hard. I think we played a good first half.”

His comments underline the striker’s dissatisfaction not only with the result but with the manner in which the team failed to assert themselves against their fierce rivals.

Adams led the line for Sevilla, making his sixth start of the season and his twelfth overall appearance. Despite his efforts, the Nigerian forward was unable to make a decisive impact on the scoresheet. He attempted two shots, including one on target, but could not convert.

In possession, Adams completed nine of fifteen passes with 60 per cent accuracy, including seven of thirteen in the opposition half, while achieving perfect accuracy for his two passes in his own half.

His influence extended beyond attacking contributions, as Adams was actively involved in duels, winning five ground challenges and five aerial battles, with an additional three aerial duels claimed. He completed three successful dribbles, though he lost possession nine times and was flagged offside twice. Defensively, Adams added two clearances and two recoveries, demonstrating his commitment across all phases of play despite the team’s overall struggles.

Next up for Adams and Sevilla is a Copa del Rey clash against Extremadura, where the striker and his teammates will be looking to respond to this setback and regain momentum in the season.
