Oyebanji Threatens To Sanction Appointees Silent On Opposition Attacks

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has warned political appointees in his administration who fail to defend government policies and achievements against opposition attacks, vowing that sanctions await them.

Oyebanji, who spoke while receiving members of the Ekiti State University (EKSU) Alumni Solidarity Group in Ado Ekiti, accused some aides of “double loyalty” and “eating from both sides,” saying their silence on critical platforms where the administration was being attacked was unacceptable.

“We need to seize the social media space. It’s not that the opposition is winning, but some political appointees, because they are eating from both sides, can’t even come out to defend the government,” the governor said.

“Very few of them are on platforms where our government faces barrage of attacks, and they will keep mute. They won’t be able to talk, and they are collecting monthly salaries. I’m marking them one by one, but I won’t say anything now. At the appropriate time, we will deal with them,” Oyebanji added.

The governor stressed the need for his loyalists and supporters to take control of the online narratives around his government, noting that propaganda and misinformation were being weaponised by critics.

His warning comes on the heels of an alarm raised by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, who alleged that some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were behind a coordinated media attack against the administration.

Oyebode claimed that over 150 individuals, including social media influencers, had been recruited and paid to smear the governor’s record of performance.

Oyebanji maintained that his government would not fold its arms while such coordinated onslaughts persisted, stressing that appointees who failed to stand by the administration would be held accountable.
