The management of Greensprings School, Lagos, has stated that its decision to close early on January 22, 2026, was not due to any security threat directed at the school, but was based solely on its proximity to the schools that received security threats.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that Greensprings was among the schools that ordered a temporary closure after receiving security threats via WhatsApp messages from an unknown number.

However, in a statement issued on Monday, the school’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Chukwuemeka Anyiam-Osigwe, clarified that only its Anthony Campus closed early for the day, while other campuses continued normal academic activities.

The statement read, “Greensprings School was not one of the schools that received any security threat. Upon becoming aware of reports involving nearby schools that allegedly received threats, Greensprings School took a precautionary decision to close early for the day only at its Anthony Campus, based solely on proximity considerations.

“Other campuses, including Awoyaya, were not in close proximity to the affected schools and therefore continued academic activities as normal, following internal safety assessments.”

The school stressed that the decision to close early was campus-specific and should not be construed as applying to its other campuses.

The statement added, “At no point did Mrs Lai Koiki state or imply that all Greensprings School campuses would close early. The wording of your report suggested that Mrs Koiki issued a blanket directive for all campuses to shut down early, which was contradicted by activities observed at the Awoyaya Campus.

“Greensprings School operates multiple campuses, including boarding facilities, and makes decisions based on location-specific risk assessments and verified information.”
