In a renewed push to reposition the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 general election, the factional National Chairman of the party, Kabiru Turaki (SAN), on Saturday led top PDP leaders to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, seeking his guidance, support and strategic backing.
Turaki, accompanied by members of his faction of the National Working Committee, former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, ex-Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, and other party chieftains, arrived at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, at exactly 11:27am.

The PDP delegation was received by the party’s Ogun State Chairman, Abayomi Tella, before proceeding into a closed-door meeting with Obasanjo, which lasted about 40 minutes.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the meeting, Turaki said the visit was part of efforts by the newly elected PDP leadership to formally introduce itself to the former President and tap into his vast political experience as the party prepares for what he described as a “gargantuan task” of dislodging the All Progressives Congress in 2027.
According to him, the former President’s counsel has further strengthened the resolve of the party’s leadership to reclaim power at the centre.
“We came to see our father, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, under whose administration PDP laid strong foundations for democratic governance.
“We came to thank him for his vision, for strengthening democratic institutions and for his enduring contributions to nation-building,” Turaki said.
He added, “We also came to draw inspiration from him, to seek guidance, advice and critical support.
The task before us may not be easy, but after our interaction with Baba today, we are convinced more than ever that it is achievable.”
The former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan described Obasanjo as an elder statesman whose leadership legacy continues to shape Nigeria’s democratic growth.
Turaki declared that the PDP was fully prepared for the 2027 elections, expressing confidence that the party’s resurgence would become evident in the forthcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states.
“By the time we reclaim Ekiti and Osun, Nigerians will have no doubt that PDP is back on track. The party is on the rise and ready to rescue the country from the incompetence and maladministration of the APC,” he stated.
In their remarks, the PDP National Secretary, Taofeek Arapaja, and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara, called on party members nationwide to close ranks, intensify mobilisation and work collectively towards restoring the PDP to power.
They stressed that unity and grassroots engagement remained critical to the party’s chances in 2027, noting that the PDP still retains a strong legacy of governance and social welfare that Nigerians can trust.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the visit has further heightened political activities within the PDP as the opposition party intensifies consultations ahead of the next election cycle.
