2027: Obi Meets Jonathan, Describes Talks as Fruitful Amid PDP Speculations

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja, fuelling fresh speculations about possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obi, who disclosed the meeting on his verified X handle, described Jonathan as his “elder brother, statesman, and leader,” adding that their discussions were “fruitful” and centred on national issues.

He wrote: “Today in Abuja, I met with my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan. We had a fruitful closed-door meeting and discussed the state of our dear nation.”

Although Obi did not reveal further details, the meeting comes at a time political watchers have linked both Jonathan and Obi to possible roles in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of 2027.

The development has heightened speculation that Obi, who contested under the Labour Party in 2023, might return to the PDP or seek a coalition with other influential political figures as permutations for the next presidential election gather steam.

Jonathan, who led Nigeria between 2010 and 2015, remains a respected figure within the PDP and has in recent times been courted across party lines for his perceived neutrality and influence..
