A 14-year-old pupil of Soltab Comprehensive College, Oke-Ata, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Miss Maryam Idris, has emerged as one of the brightest stars of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), scoring distinctions in all eleven subjects she registered for.

The feat, which has drawn commendations from her teachers and family, further cements Idris’ reputation as an exceptional young achiever.

Breaking the news of her performance, the Proprietor of Soltab Comprehensive College, Mrs Batiliat Bolanle Oyedele, described Idris as a “superstar pupil” who had consistently distinguished herself since joining the school.

“She has been outstanding right from her first day in this school. This result is only a reflection of her hard work, focus and brilliance,” Oyedele said.

Maryam is no stranger to academic glory. In 2024, she clinched a silver medal in the prestigious Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, where over 30,000 entries from across the globe were submitted.

Speaking on her daughter’s success, Maryam’s father, Mr. Idris Katib, an award-winning public relations practitioner, attributed her excellence to a mix of discipline, self-drive and mentorship from her family.

“Maryam is a gifted child who learns from everyone around her. She does most of her reading and research independently, though she often debates with us at home before adopting our views. That is what makes her so outstanding in everything she does,” Katib said.

In her reaction, Maryam expressed delight over her performance but vowed not to relent in her academic journey.

She pledged to replicate the achievement in her Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination in the years ahead.

“I am grateful to God for this result. I will keep working hard so I can achieve the same in my senior school examinations,” she said.

Maryam also appealed to the Ogun State Government to support her studies through a scholarship, stressing that such encouragement would further motivate young achievers like her.
