The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has carried out an accreditation and resource inspection visit to Harvarde College of Science, Business and Management Studies, Obada, Ogun State, as part of efforts to strengthen the quality of technical and vocational education in Nigeria.

The visitation team, led by Dr. Fatimoh Kabir Umar, Director of Polytechnic and Allied Programmes at the NBTE, assessed the institution’s human, physical and material resources to determine its readiness for accreditation of eight academic programmes.

The programmes under consideration include National Diploma (ND) in Law, Higher National Diploma (HND) in Film and Multimedia Studies, HND in Journalism and Media Studies, HND in Business Administration, HND in Accountancy, HND in Software and Web Development, HND in Networking and Cloud Computing, as well as institutional accreditation.

Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Umar commended the college management for what she described as a clear commitment to providing a conducive learning environment and aligning with government’s vision of quality education.

“Your dedication to facilitating an environment conducive to learning is commendable,” she said. “However, certain shortfalls must be addressed urgently if these programmes are to scale through the accreditation process.

“It is imperative that we work together to enhance the educational experience for students and ensure they are equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in today’s competitive job market.”

In his response, the Proprietor and Provost of the college, Dr. Oluwatosin Adebayo, pledged that the institution would not relent in addressing the areas of concern raised by the NBTE.

“We recognize the challenges ahead, and we are fully committed to making the necessary enhancements to meet accreditation standards,” Adebayo said.

“Our mission remains to provide an exceptional educational experience that meets regulatory benchmarks while preparing students for successful careers.”

The NBTE visit is part of a nationwide drive to raise the bar of technical and vocational education in Nigeria, ensuring institutions produce graduates who are competitive locally and globally.

There was a strong sense of optimism among staff and management of Harvarde College at the end of the exercise, with both the institution and NBTE expressing readiness to work together towards achieving full accreditation for the programmes.
