President Bola Tinubu has commended Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, for what he described as outstanding investments in education, healthcare and transportation aimed at improving the lives of the people.

The President gave the commendation on Saturday in Maiduguri, the state capital, during an official visit to the state, according to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu, who is on a three-state tour of Borno, Bauchi and Lagos, said Zulum’s administration had demonstrated a consistent commitment to people-centred development.

According to the statement, the President arrived Maiduguri at about 12.30 pm and inaugurated several projects, including the “international wing of the Muhammadu Buhari Airport, a new VIP extension, electric vehicles, intra-state buses, tricycles, as well as three model primary, junior secondary and senior secondary schools.”

“I am commissioning this primary, junior secondary school and senior secondary schools to the glory of God, and continuous education of our children,” Tinubu said.

The statement noted that the President praised the governor for “continuously investing in education, health and transportation and for steadily improving the livelihoods of indigenes of the state.”

During the visit, Tinubu also participated in the marriage ceremony of Sadeeq Sheriff, son of former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and Hadiza Kam Salem.

“President Tinubu stood in as the father of the groom, in accordance with Kanuri culture and marriage rites, while Prof. Zulum acted as the father of the bride to receive the traditional bride price in the form of gold coins,” the statement.

The wedding ceremony was hosted by the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, at the Maiduguri Central Mosque.

The event was attended by several state governors, including Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina, Agbu Kefas of Taraba, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa and Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, as well as senators and ministers.

Tinubu departed Maiduguri for Bauchi State at about 3.25 pm to continue his official tour.

PUNCH Online reports that the President landed at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, Bauchi, at about 4.09 pm, where he was received with a guard of honour by the Nigerian Air Force.
